Looking for something to do with your child in Düsseldorf, but in English? Here’s a list of fun activities for kids of different ages – and parents as well.

Playgroups and kids classes in Düsseldorf

English Library playgroups 

You can attend these free playgroups at the International English Library. They are the only English library in North Rhine-Westphalia with a selection of over 20,000 publications from classic to contemporary, run by an international team of volunteers. The purpose of the organization is to foster a community around English books and culture.

Their events can be a great way to meet other international families.

Preschool Storytime

Join this group on Tuesdays at 4.30pm for a weekly Preschool Story Time session at the library and enjoy stories for 3-5 year-olds told by Liz. 

Tales for Tots

You can attend this group with your toddler on Mondays at 11.30am. Meet Mel at the new Library's children area for stories and songs in English for children aged 12-36 months. Kids have to be accompanied by a caregiver. No registration is necessary and you can just come along! 

English Theatre Düsseldorf

Creative Play: Parents & Toddlers Group

The theatre offers a creative play toddler group for children ages 1-3 every Thursday from 10.00 am to 11.30 am. A parent or guardian has to attend the group as well. The course consists of 11 sessions and the fee ist €255.26.

Littluns Theatre & Song Course for 3-5 year olds

Older kids from 3-5 can join this theatre & song group every Sunday from 10 am to 11.30 am. The program is perfect for little ones who love acting, singing and playing. Together they play drama games, explore stories, create different characters and experience magical new worlds. 

They will also sing popular songs from books, films and musicals and let their creativity shine. Perfect for budding superstars and those with tons of energy.

Youth Musical Theatre Course for ages 6 - 10 and 11 - 13

Musical theatre course for children to experience a whirlwind of different dance choreographies, vocal harmonies and theatre scenes from a variety of well-known Musicals! Each 2-hour class is a mixture of singing, dancing, and acting. The perfect environment for all children to be free, have fun and be creative. They take place every Saturday at Christchurch e.V. in Rotterdamer Str. 135 in Düsseldorf.

Kidz1st English speaking playgroup

This playgroup is led by Donna - a Kindergarten teacher from England. Donna offers several courses with or without parents with different topics and for children between 12 months and 4 years. Every course consists of 8 sessions. The fee for courses with parents is €50. Courses without parents cost €70. You can find an overview of Donna's current courses here. Montessori Family Center

Opened in March 2024, this is Düsseldorf's first Montessori family center for children ages 0-6. They have four play and learning areas: a Movement Room, Montessori Workroom, Lovevery Room, and a Parents’ Lounge. They are located in Düsseldorf-Friedrichstadt and speak English, German, Spanish, Ukrainian and Russian.

They offer free play sessions, Montessori lessons as well as Arts and Music Lessons for kids. In additional, they also offer Montessori workshops for parents and the option of booking their venue for birthdays and special events.

Kietzee members save 10% on free play sessions and Montessori lessons.

Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann

Get the free audio guide directly on your smartphone so that you can use your own headphones in the museum. 

Aquazoo Löbbecke

The Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum in Düsseldorf is a zoo, aquarium and natural history museum all in one. In a unique synergy of living animals, vivid exhibits and interactive media, it enables visitors to experience and understand the origin, evolution and diversity of animals and plants. An English audio guide can be used. A fee has to be paid for it.

Düsseldorf Family Card

You can apply for this free card that offers some amazing discounts for local events, zoos, indoor play parks and much more if you have at least one child under the age of 18. Since 2024 you can use the digital family card. You just have to fill in the form. 

Kietzee Member Events

In this Facebook group you can connect with other English speaking families. It is a community where members help one another to navigate daily life in düsseldorf and share their experiences.

Düsseldorfparents 

This is an English speaking Facebook group for parents of kids going to school in Düsseldorf. For parents that originate outside of Germany and especially for kids which are going to German school.

Afloat (Online)

Afloat holds monthly online meetups for new and expecting international moms. The virtual support group currently takes place every second Monday of the month at 20:00. Learn more. (Donation based)
